Periodontitis
Periodontal diagnosis
At our dental clinic, we specialise in periodontics, with diagnosis being a key aspect.
Before beginning gum treatment, the extent of the infection must be assessed by taking a series of X-rays of the teeth (periapical series) and collecting data on gum health (periodontogram with Florida Probe), which allows us to diagnose periodontal disease.
The Florida Probe periodontogram represents the collection of health data in which the amount of infection is measured, presenting the results of your examination in a state-of-the-art visual format that clearly informs the patient and helps them understand the treatment they need.
In the periapical radiographic series, we will assess whether there is loss in the bone that supports the teeth and what are the characteristics and extent of bone loss, which allows us to know whether there is a possibility of regenerating the lost bone or not. We will also assess other dental pathologies such as dental caries, pulp pathology or dental nerve infection and other types of dental pathology.
It also serves as a starting point and comparison with the oral health data recorded once treatment is complete, confirming the success of the treatment and enabling future monitoring of the patient’s dental health.
Diagnosis of periodontal disease
Treatment for periodontitis
We now know that there are different types of gum infections and that some of them may require treatment with antiseptics and antibiotics. For this reason, at our dental clinic in Bilbao we often carry out studies or microbiology tests to find out the type of microbes that predominate in the infection and make the most appropriate decision for its treatment.
