To restore or improve the appearance of the gums, we use cosmetic periodontal microsurgery. In some cases, this involves removing gum tissue to expose more of the tooth surface, while in others, where the gum has receded, an additive procedure will be necessary.
When the visible gum line predominates over the teeth, we refer to this as a ‘gummy smile.’ To treat these cases, a gingivectomy is performed, which consists of removing the excess gum tissue. This method is only performed after confirming that there are no other causes for the problem.
