Treatment for gingival melanosis<\/h2>\n

Gingival melanosis (dark spots on the gums) is caused by excess melanin or contact with toxic substances.<\/p>\n

The natural colour of the gums is a pale pink, which indicates good health. However, in some people, especially smokers and even passive smokers, there is an increase in gum pigmentation that can darken the brightness of the smile. This is caused by increased melanin secretion and the deposit of toxic substances from tobacco that stimulate benign pigmentation of the gums, known as gingival melanosis. It appears to a greater extent during the first year and usually decreases when smoking is stopped. <\/p>\n

How to remove stains from gums<\/h2>\n

There are different microsurgical techniques for removing excess melanin or darkening of the gums. Of all the treatment options for removing excess pigment, the application of Er-YAG (Erbium-YAG) laser is the most comfortable, painless, effective and safe for both the patient and for preventing possible relapses. <\/p>\n

The figures show the results of treatment at our own dental clinic before and after the removal of excess pigmentation or gingival melanosis in a former smoker.<\/p>\n
